Evidence the Founding Fathers Were Not Christian

"Christianity is the most perverted system that ever shone on man."
- Thomas Jefferson

"The Christian god can easily be pictured as virtually the same god as the many ancient gods of past civilizations. The Christian god is a three headed monster; cruel, vengeful and capricious. If one wishes to know more of this raging, three headed beast-like god, one only needs to look at the caliber of people who say they serve him. They are always of two classes: fools and hypocrites."
- Ibid

"As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."
- Treaty of Tripoli (signed by John Adams)

I've been wondering where this (seemingly recent) push for "a return to" Christian morals is coming from, as well as the anti-intellectual sentiment from the people involved.

Generally this whole topic pisses me off whenever I think about it. These people who (superficially ) believe in honesty, morality, love, charity, etc.. practice none of these. To bend what is established history to suit their belief that the USA was founded on Christianity is just one of their latest efforts.

It is too bad, that at best most of us will only be preaching to the choir (to borrow a phrase steeped in religion) as a lot of these people actively avoid anything that hints at challenging their beliefs.
